What is it like in DTE?

What had we been learning?
For the past weeks, we had been learning a lot about cyber safety in DTE, knowing the importance of safety and knowing how to be safe. We first created our very own website, customising it to our liking, changing the backgrounds, fonts and layouts. We then quickly started learning about Ergonomics, being safe and efficient when working on your computer for a long time. Then our teacher introduced us to a game that teaches internet safety in an entertaining way called Interland where you go through many levels beating the hacker and internet bullies. After learning a bit about cybersafety we further enhanced our knowledge by creating an infographic all about cyber safety by getting information from the Manaiakalani website. Lastly, we explored different aspects of being on the internet such as being a pioneer, creator, doer, and thinker in digital bytes where we choose one of the four and answer questions about them and do a project based on it.

LEVELS: Reality River "Don't Fall For Fake"
In order to be successful in this game, you are given a task to choose the right answers out of the 3 from a question that is given to you relating to internet safety. Once you get the right answer, you are a given path to get closer to crossing the river.
King Kingdom "It's Cool To Be Kind"
The goal of this game to spread love to sad netizens who had been hurt by internet bullies whilst a the same time rising to the kingdom. There are hearts spread around the map for you to pick and give to sad netizens.

Mindful Mountain "Share With Care"
In order to be successful in this game, you have a task of sharing contents to the right people. To reach the right people you shine a light through a mirror.

Tower of Treasure "Secure your Secrets"
This game's task is to collect online valuables making sure not to drop them to be able to proceed to the next stage. When valuables are dropped hackers would steal it.

What have you learnt?

Since we had been learning about internet safety, I'm more aware of the dangers of the internet, and I'm now informed that everything I do on the internet leaves a footprint so I should be cautious about everything I do online, for example, leaving my personal information like my address, phone number, what school I go to, and parent's name. I also acquired to always analyze the website's name first since it might lead me to a website that wouldn't be pleasing. Safety online isn't the only thing I learnt I also learnt about ergonomics and the importance of your posture,  the height of your computer to your eyes and how you sit. Furthermore, I got more aware of the influence of the internet, especially for younger users and how it affects the way they think so it's necessary to think twice before posting anything. I also got an opportunity to play around with creating a website where I acquired much information in terms of making a banner, background, buttons, links, embedding and adding pictures.
