Career Report Science

                              Pharmacist

What Are Pharmacists?

Pharmacists is a type of chermist that are professionals with medicines and drugs. They focus on how to use medicines safely and effectively.

How much education needed to become one?

In order to be a pharmacist you require to have a university level education to master biochemical mechanism (chemical mechanism that involves living organs)side effects of drugs and how it works. However some countries requires to have Master of pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy, or Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.

What are the main purpose and normal task in their job?

There are lots of different types of job as a pharmacist. The most frequent type that you see in hospitals and pharmacies are community pharmacist, they supply their costumers medicine as prescribed to them and advice them on how to use the prescription, instruct them how it works, and what necessities they need to do (exercise, sleep early, time of the dosage, etc). The more professional type are pharmacists that works in healthcare, sometimes they're the one that prescribe medicines to patient or test newly invented drugs on animals to see the effects of it.

How much do pharmacist get paid every year?

They get paid approximately $106,410-$131,440 annualy.

Famous Pharmacist:

The person we will be doing is John Pemberton he was born on 8th of July 1831, he sadly died on 16th August 1888 due to stomach cancer at the age of 57. After he graduated from Unitversity Of Georgia and got a pharmacist degree he went straight to war to be a Lieutenant Colonel. After the civil war he formed a company where he experimented with pharmacuetical products. He was famous for creating Coca-Cola  by accident, he got addicted to morphine and cocaine so he needed to solve the problem  by developing a drink.

2 facts about him:
  1. Pembertons's Partner suggest to have to c's instead of Coca-Kola (Kola if from one of the ingredients).
  2. Pemberton got addicted to morphine but he got banned from it so he did cocaine as a subtitute.

Why I chose to study job:
The reason why I chose this job is because I see a lot pharmacist everytime I go to the mall and always wonder if they do more than distrubute medicines.

Would I want to this job?
No, I'm personally not interested on having an occupation related to medicines.

What skill do I think I have that would make me good/bad at this job and how good will I think I will be at this job.
I don't think I would be perfect for this job because I'm an introvert and I don't like communicating with strangers. Also I forget things easily especially medicines that have long names. I believe that this job is not right for me, I would be really horrible at it because I would be too shy to talk to the costumers.

Asking people in class:
Sarah's response: The only thing she knows about being a pharmacist is dealing with medicines. She doesn't think it would be fun becuase she doesn't want to deal with complicated ''things''. She thinks that she would be bad at this job because she needs to be dilicate around medecine and she's not delicate.

Jeremiah's response:
He doesn't know anything about being a pharmasict. He thinks that it won't be fun because he doesn't know what the job is about. He thinks he would be bad at it because he might give a wrong medicine.

Bridge Design

How To Make A Strong Bridge Out Of Paper

The only material we can use are 4 sheets of newspaper and 1 m tape.

Reffering to the movie ''Boss Baby'' it said that the strongest shape is triangle.

We will be trying to re-create this model by folding the sides of the newspaper in a triangle shape and use tape instead of paper clips.

We decided to change the model that we orginaly have in mind because the newspaper wasn't as strong as paper so we tried to roll the newspaper and put it on top of each other.

The picture that we had inpiration from.
Results:
We can't compare it to the other model we did because we didn't test the other one.
The bridge turned out to be better than I thought, It held 50 kg.

The Job I'm Researching Is A Geologist

What Is A Geologist?
Geologist is a career  that studies rocks and mineral to know how earthquakes, landslides, floods, and volcanic eruptions happen.

1.What training do you need for that career?
To have geologist as a job you required to have a bachelor's degree. Some city requires a license, to get a license you need a to take a fundemental of geology exam. After collecting, they observe what it contains.

2. What do you do for an average day on the job?
They travel to diffent parts of the world to collect fossils, minerals and rock samples also measure the physical properties of the world.

Vortex Cannon

Vortex Cannon

Aim: To modify our vortex(change the shape and size) to see how far it shoots.
Equipment: Bucket,  Rubbish bag, and tape.
Method:We are not making a ordinary homemade vortex using a cardboard. Instead we are using a bucket. First we tape a piece of rubbish bag tightly on top of the bucket(this acts like the side of the cardboard where you  squeeze it)
Results: When we tested our vortex, we started off in a 3 metre line. After one of my partner smacked the vortex on the rubbish side the row of cup barely moved. The best vortex in our class made it to 3 metres in two smack.
Discussion:If we do it again, I would change the size into  a smaller hole. I think that the smaller hole would make it further because there's a lot of air trying to get out.

The Physics of Car Racing

The  Physics of Car Racing

1.What has been done to make this a 'fair test'?
We all had the same type of model car to start off with. Also we are racing our cars in the same track and the same materials to use.

2.What forces are needed to make the car go faster and how you modified your car accrodingly?
We added rock and clay to increase the gravity to make it go faster. The gravity pushes the car down on a angle which accelerate it.

3.What forces are needed to make the car stop and what adjustment have you made to try and stop it by the line? We added rubber bands and wrapped it around the car to make it bumpy have more friciton.

4.What forces are needed to make the car travel further and what adjustments have you made to achieve this? To have more acceleration but less gravity. So we took the rock off so there's not much gravity as before. We still need a little bit of weight on top of the car so it's balanced and won't be able to flip so we kept the clay.

Wind

Wind

Why does wind exist/What drives the wind?
As  global warming gets hotter, the atmosphere get warmer too. Some section of the Earth have direct rays of sun all year round and are always warm. However other parts of the Earth don't get direct sun rays, therefore the tempreture is colder. Warmer air which weigh less than cold air rises. As for the cool air, it moves to find a place warmer and replace the warm air. The movement of the cold air is what make wind move.

What are the effects of wind?
Good:

  •  Helps grow trees.
  • Drives the wind turbine.
  • Make waves to clean the ocean.
Bad:
  • Tornado
  • Sand dunes
Pictures and Videos of the experiment we did base on wind:

The Physics Of Tug Of War(Friction)

Carpet
Concrete
Grass
Lino

Prediction:
I believe that out of all of them Carpet or concrete will have the most friction because the surface is rough and  have lot of grip. So it will be the easiest to play tug of war first. Lino will be harder because it smooth and easy to slip in. Grass depends on the weather, wether it's wet or dry. Wet grass will be slippery because of the mud but dry grass will be easier to play because the grass is helping us grip.

Conclusion:
What did I find out?
I discovered that the carpet is the best for tug of war. I had a lot grip while pulling the rope. Based on my experience on the experiment I think that the most friction is the carpet and the least is the grass because it was slippery.

How was it a fair test?
The same people participated and did the same thing that we did for every ground that we tested.

Something I'm wondering.
Why does bumpy surface have the most friction.

Carpet:

Concrete:

Grass:

Lino:

What is a simple machine?

What is a simple machine?

  • A machine is a system that changes the relationship between effort (the force applied) and load (the weight lifted or moved)
  • Machines make our lives easier.
  • Machines help us to lift, push, pull, turn, cut & join things.
  • Wheels, rollers, levers, gears, and pulleys all make it easier to move a heavy load by reducing friction or magnifying forces.

Scientific repport on paper planes

Aim:
To use my understanding of forces to try to construct a paper plane that is stable and flies in a straight pace.
To see who builds the best paper plane by distance by measuring it.

Hypothesis:
Everytime I toss my paper plane it goes the opposite direction but If I throw it backwards it will go the way I wanted, I believe that it will fly about approximately 1.5m.

Forces on Paper Planes:

Lift⬆️,Gravity⬇️,Thrust➡️and Drag⬅️.
In order for the Aeroplane to fly in a straight pace, the forces needs to be balanced.

Methods:
I constructed the plane that is currently holding the world record. I figured that if I use the world record plane it would help me win the class competion.

This is the video that helped learn how to make the plane.⬆️

Results:
My plane flew straight about 3.5 metres at first but curved and bumped into an object and stopped.

Discussion:
I've learnt the different forces on a plane. If I would do this again, I would fold my paper planes more carefully.
