1) What does the graph show us?

The graph shows the population of the Maori decreasing while the number of Europeans increased.

2) Why do you think the number of Maori change?

This can be, because of the Europeans arrival. Since the Europeans were more advanced, they brought weapons such as muskets. These weapons can put the Maori into a disadvantage and made it easier for them to be killed. These weapons also allowed the Maori to kill each other during wars.

3) Why do you think the numbers of Europeans changed?

Europeans had the upper hand when it comes to technology. The technology is used to exchange with the Maori, for materials such as food. This made it easier to live and create bigger families. This can also be the missionaries who migrated to New Zeland to turn it into a Christian country.

Iwi	Iwi is used to call a group of people such as tribes and communities.
Colony	A country ruled by another powerful one.
Sovereignty	Having domination and power to govern itself or another country.
Governorship	A group of people that dictates what people do and create laws.
Rangatiratanga	The Maori word for sovereignty.
Kawanatanga	The direct translation of governorship. However, it means to take care of the land and the people.
Taonga	Taonga is possession such as objects, lands and language.

The bar graph clearly shows evidence of population increase due to the change in technology.

Gathering all the information from our map and timeline, the same countries were plotted on the bar graph to show the number of people on the earth starting with the world's population being less than 1 billion and ending with over 5. The reason for this sudden increase is due to technology, as technology advance, the more solutions we have for our human problems. For example, the invention of weapons 400,000 years ago helped the human civilisation tremendously, helping hunt animals for food, fur and etc. this invention moved our position from being in the middle to the top of the food chain. Another example is the invention of the steam engine in Belgium in 1859 which was shown on the timeline started the evolution for trains, being able to travel from one country to another, making us humans have more access to resources. Without the advancement of technology, the population wouldn't be able to reach half the amount we have now.

How the Egyptians made Pyramids

The Pyramids serves as burial tombs for their pharaohs, people who they believe are both man and god. The people who built the pyramid were rumoured to be slaves but that's completely false, the builders were paid and well-fed. A lot of planning went into building the pyramids, they had to think of the locations and specific measurements of the building and specific size rock is required.

The Egyptians used water as a tool to split big rocks. They did this by carving a hole in the middle with a hammer and a chisel, then inserting wood inside, soaking it with water causing it to expand. They carried the heavy big rocks with a sledge dragging it across wet sand to prevent the grains to pile up and stop the sledge from moving. The stones they used on the outside was granite but the inside they used limestone, a type of stone that is much harder.

Once the stones were hauled across the desert, they then applied their knowledge of maths and science to meticulously stack the stones, using no sticky material to bind it together. They used approximately 2.3 million stones to create 146.5 meters structures that we see today as one of the 8 wonders of the world.

My cave drawing consists of things that represent me. The three stick figures represent my family, me being the figure on the left, my mum in the middle and my dad on the left. The star and the sun is inspired by the flag of the Philippines, where I came from. The map of New Zealand shows where I migrated to, relating to it are the mountains when I first came here, the first thing I saw on the aeroplane is the snowy mountains. 

Why is it important to you?
It's important to me because it represents me and my origins.

How does your design fit with traditional cave art technique?
It fits because I saw a lot of cave drawings representing nature, in my case, it's the mountains, stars and sun. They also show their family using stick figures, so I figured to do that as well.

Are Students Addicted To Their Phones?

Although it's no secret that it is easy for students to be addicted to their cellphones due to having unlimited things to do with it, it can also take a toll on their brain, leaving them addicted. Like most things in life, cellphones are better in moderation, being addicted to it can cause many problems that affect students physical wellbeing.  Being constantly on their cellular devices would consume all their time and be unconsciously glued to it to a point where they don't leave their bed, resulting to being unable to stretch or properly move their body. Without any exercises or merely moving every day would eventually lead to early future health problems like arthritis, heart diseases, lack of energy and eye problems. Yes, cellphones allow you to do almost anything, however being hypnotised by screens can be the cause of health problems many people face today.

Technology Change

 It's evident that technology has tremendously changed throughout human history. Technology has benefited humans at the start, from creating fire to using it as our smartphone.

 Technology are tools that help make people's lives easier. Technology comes in a lot of forms and sizes such as your computers, tv's, Ipads, cellphones to your basic needs at school such as pens, pencils and rubbers.

What's the purpose of the activity?
The purpose of this activity is to learn more about Aboriginals and their history with boomerangs/




The story:
My artwork took inspirations from the symbols Aboriginal drew to tell a story on their boomerangs. The symbols tell a story of a typical Aboriginal family in the past, on the left side it shows a man and a woman with a love heart in the middle, this symbolises them being a loving family. In the middle, it shows a meeting spot, this is where they meet after a long day of hunting, the blue on the sides represents the river they had to cross. On the right side, the eyelashes looking thing is actually a symbol for the human track, this where they walk through every day, the one below it is an animal track, this where they can know the locations of the animals they need to hunt after that are trees that represent the Forrest, last but not least is a boomerang, a tool they use to hunt. The red colour represents the desert sand and animal footprints. The black represents the Aboriginal people. The yellow in the middle shows the joy being shared in the meeting place.

What went well?

I think transferring the Aboriginals symbol into my boomerang is the part I did well.

Rose's Story

Think all about the stories you have just heard and read, what are your thoughts about the impacts these events had on their lives?

Being a different race doesn't give the welfare worker the right to take their children away from them. Abducting a child from their parents breaks a family apart, like Rose and her family, her parents had become alcoholics due to the absence of their children. Not only her parents are affected by this situation but Rose as well, she had been left by herself at 9 years old to be independent. Fortunately, a kind family took her in but she had to do something in return that is taking care of other kids when she's a child herself.

Life had been remarkably challenging back in London, it’s started to get overcrowded there hence the lack of job opportunity, I know you guys will acknowledge my dreams and let me pursue to be a well-known tailor, I always had admired tailoring clothes and I wouldn’t be able to reach my dreams with the lack of opportunities there. Children are also being exploited, forcing them to work in dangerous conditions making me worry about my future child’s fate if I stay there. The houses are also poorly made having no running water and toilet inside leading to share bathrooms with strangers, on top of that they’re built so close together, leaving me no privacy, all I could hear all day and night was our neighbour’s gossips. The pollution, it’s starting to get even worse the air is all covered in a thick black fog if I didn’t leave my lungs would be filled with that disgusting thing by now. The pollution and lack of running water in the houses isn’t helping with the diseases either, I can’t risk my health anymore almost everyone in our neighbourhood has caught a disease at least one at a household gets Typhus, Typhoid, and Cholera from drinking dirty water that contains faeces due to the poor water filter system. Please be careful of the disease going around, only if you guys agreed upon my request of migrating to another country I wouldn’t have left you there (I’m deeply sorry for being selfish).

As you know one month prior to my migration, I was seeking for a job, I travelled all over the city looking for companies that would hire a tailor, this was when I found a poster promoting a new life in another country, it felt like it was calling my name and is the only way out of this hell, the picture was very enticing, so I decided to pursue it.

Before boarding the ship, I had mix feelings, I contemplated whether or not to stay, to leave everything behind there including my family and friends but  I’m glad to say that I made the right decisions living here but sadly I couldn’t say the same about the trip. The steerage had a wood interior, it wasn’t as big as I thought especially for the number of people boarding, the majority of the spaces was taken up by rows of bunk bed that stack up to three, enough to fit a slender person, in the middle are long tables for passengers to lounge in. The ship was filled with families, many children ran around despite the tight space, the sound of the babies crying still echoes in my ear reminding me about my family leaving me to feel very lonely, I couldn’t help but tear up. Halfway through the trip, it felt like I was losing my mind, I even had thoughts of jumping out of the ship, sick of smelling body odour that surrounds  the atmosphere, and looking at the same layout, faces and eating the same plain, dried, tasteless food they serve every day, during that time, mum, I missed your cooking, I wanted to go home and run up to your arms. The only thing that kept me sane was the books that I brought and the sea life we pass through admiring the beautiful creation making me forget about the never-ending trip, they also hold concerts inside the ship to entertain passengers but it still couldn’t help me erase the memories of witnessing the number of deaths on board. The diseases were caused by the lack of hygiene, we had limited fresh water supplies that weren’t able to clean everyone and had a restriction of being able to drink 3.4 litres of water a day.

All of the sufferings came to a halt when I arrived in paradise. Getting off the ship a smell of fresh air entered my nose, the cold breeze made my skin shivered but the sun made it warm again. At first, I was lost, I didn’t know where to go but I found it very exciting, I admit that I enjoyed being independent building my own legacy and starting a new life from scratch. After migrating here I met a lot of new friends, they toured me around the country, they took me to  all the beautiful places here, driving around, I haven’t seen anything bad about this place, it was perfect, not a single pollution was in the air, the ground was still covered in greenery and hills were still filled with trees and bushes, the mountain's peak wasn’t visible due to the long white cloud covering it, and the rivers were still clear as glass. Being beautiful and clean wasn’t the only advantage this place had, it also has a lot of new opportunities not just for me but my future children, unlike London where people struggled looking for a job, companies here are actually the one seeking for people. Did I mention that I got a job as I tailor? It has a good paycheck, more than enough to feed myself. I also meet new customers every day that compliments my work recommending me to their friends, that encourages me to stay inspired to what I do and continue pursuing my dreams of being a famous tailor. Despite feeling like I was living a lavish life, I still felt like something was missing, I miss you guys, maybe after reading this it will somehow convince you to migrate here with me and hopefully, this would lessen your anger towards me. I had saved up enough to buy a house that could fit the whole family in, settling here isn’t hard and many opportunities await...

Human Trafficking involves people being exploited, sold, abused and kidnapped. Human Trafficking occurs around the world but one of the worst countries involved are Belarus, China, and North Korea. Human Trafficking is driven by money, people abuse and kidnap other individuals to make more income not empathizing with others and treating them like slaves, defiling their Human Rights, “No To Slavery”. Pimp and smugglers often abduct young girls withdrawing them from there family causing them trauma and exploiting them for sexual purposes making them prostitutes. There are many young girls still to this day getting exploited and getting sexually abused.

My Definition:

Child soldiers are children age 18 or younger recruited by an armed force either forcefully or voluntarily. Child Soldiers aren't all recruited for fighting some job involve as messengers, human shields, cooks, spies, suicide bomber or sex slaves.

Google Definition:

Child soldiers are children (individuals under the age of 18) who are used for any military purpose. Some are in their late teens, while others may be as young as four. They are not only boys – many are girls.

Some child soldiers are used for fighting – to kill and commit other acts of violence. Others are used as cooks, porters, messengers, informants or spies, or in any other way their commanders want. Child soldiers are also used for sexual purposes.

SEEL paragraph:
Child soldiers are used and manipulated into war violating both their human rights and freedom. Most child soldiers are recruited in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, some children join voluntarily to escape poverty to gain protection or to have someone that resembles family this why troubled areas are often targeted due to children from that area are more prone to violence and have fewer chances of having school or work opportunity, however, most are kidnapped and forced into joining through threatening and frightening the children into it. Being forced into holding a gun and teaching children to kill isn’t the only business child soldiers do, jobs can include as being messengers, cooks, human shields, spies, suicide bombers, or sex slaves, many of these jobs dishonours the Human Rights Law, like the Right To Life, if a child is forced into being a human shield or a human weapon there Right to Life is violated and taken away from them or their Right to Education, all there time and energy are wasted on serving instead of having access to an education. Children are targeted because they are easier to manipulate and force into fighting and having their Human Right and Freedom taken away from them and seeing unpleasant things can cause trauma for the children.

“The Right to Education”.Third world countries like Somalia Sudan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and many more still don’t abide the Human Rights law in this modern day society when it comes to child labour, taking away education from 200 million children all over the globe ranging from 5 to 17 years old. Poor families that live in poverty often owes a debt forcing their children to work at a very young age. So parents usually don’t have a choice but to deprive their child of their education, exchanging their children’s future for the debt. Most children work in industries of agriculture (working with plants), services(hotel, restaurant waiters), fishing, construction, mining, manufacturing and even dangerous jobs like mining. Famous brand companies you see today in your local supermarket often have child labourers behind them, they get their resources from suppliers that have young slaves working for them. No matter how hard a slave works they don’t get money in return, they only get provided food, water, and shelter and the only way to get out is to pay off the debt or escape. The Human Rights Law has been around for centuries yet many countries pretend that it doesn’t exist exploiting children to grow financially not caring about the future of there country’s economy.

Who is Hariett Tubman and what is she famous for?
What I found interesting?
What I found interesting is how they use code names for their safehouses and helpers like the "lighthouse" and "conductors".

What I already knew?
I had no idea about anything to do with slavery before getting introduced to the Underground Railroad.

What I want to learn?
I want to learn more about the other "conductors".

Why Harriet Tubman was an important figure?
She inspires slaves to fight for their freedom and also help others in need.

What is the Slave Trade Triangle?
It is where countries (from the Americas, Africa and Europe) trade raw materials like cotton, tobacco, and sugar in exchange for slaves from Africa. Slaves are often sold by African chiefs for weapons and auction to the highest bidder. They travel compact in a ship across Europe and America stack on top each other just to fit everyone in one trip.

Where did the Slave Trade Triangle occur?
It occurred mainly in the Americas, Africa, and Europe.

When did it happen?
It happened in the 1400s to the 1500s before there were many laws.

Why did it happen?
It's a way for slaves to pay for their debt and buyers to make more money due to the production of work increasing and slaves only getting paid by food, water and shelter.

I found it interesting how long it took for it to be spread across the world and is still a thing that every country is working on.
