Palette-Colours you're using
Atmosphere-the way the surroundings make you feel.
What type of colours used in this location?
1. District 12-Beginning
Colours: Browns, grey, white black and greens.
A natural colour palette.
2.The Capitol-Brights colours, cyan, pink, white, grey and silver.
A metallic palette
3.Control Room-Cyan, white and grey.
Hologram.
Clinical palette-clean
How does the different colour palette change the feel of the story?
District 12- Dark, old, gloomy
The Capitol-Crowded, futuristic, luxurious.
Control Room-Technological, busy, crisp, clean, professional.
Why has the director used these colours?
District 12-Life is hard, poor, struggling
The Capitol- Life is easy, rich-have access to everything.
Control room-Professionals
Colour is used effectively to create an atmosphere. We see this in the two scenes-District 12 at the beginning and the Capitol as Katniss and Peeta arrived. In District 12 we see a natural palette of browns, greys and greens whereas in the Capitol the people wear bright colours and a metallic palette of greys, silvers and white is used. This makes us understand that things in District dark, old and gloomy whilst life in the Capitol is easy, crowded and futuristic. The director did this to show the imbalance of rich vs poor. This shows life is hard and people are poor in the district but in the Capitol life is easy.

Wet Cell vs Dry Cell Batterries
Wet Cell vs Dry Cell Batterries
What is the difference between "wet cell batteries" and dry cell batteries?
Wet cell battery uses liquid electrolyte oppose to dry cell battery using electrolyte paste.
Where do we commonly find examples of each?
Wet cell batteries are commonly used in vehicle batteries such as cars, motorcycles and airplanes. Dry cell battery can be commonly found in phones, laptops, toys and small objects that need batteries.
Why are some batteries able to be recharged and others not?
There are two types of batteries a primary cell battery and a secondary cell battery, primary cell batteries aren't capable to recharge whilst a secondary batteries can. The ability for batteries to recharge depends on the elements used, cheap materials such as manganese that's ussually used in primary cell batteries can easily corrode and the reaction will be spent resulting to a dead battery. Hence the reason for rechargable batteries tending to cost more due to the metals used to create it such as lithium, the better the materials used the less it corrodes and be able to be recharged.

Aboriginal Boomerang
My plan |
My plan |
Aboriginal Boomerang
What's the purpose of the activity?
The purpose of this activity is to learn more about Aboriginals and their history with boomerangs/
The story:
My artwork took inspirations from the symbols Aboriginal drew to tell a story on their boomerangs. The symbols tell a story of a typical Aboriginal family in the past, on the left side it shows a man and a woman with a love heart in the middle, this symbolises them being a loving family. In the middle, it shows a meeting spot, this is where they meet after a long day of hunting, the blue on the sides represents the river they had to cross. On the right side, the eyelashes looking thing is actually a symbol for the human track, this where they walk through every day, the one below it is an animal track, this where they can know the locations of the animals they need to hunt after that are trees that represent the Forrest, last but not least is a boomerang, a tool they use to hunt. The red colour represents the desert sand and animal footprints. The black represents the Aboriginal people. The yellow in the middle shows the joy being shared in the meeting place.
What went well?
I think transferring the Aboriginals symbol into my boomerang is the part I did well.

Discussion Workshop 3-Costumes
Workshop 3: How are costumes used to enhance the story?
Atmosphere/Mood-How you feel in the surroundings.
1. Reaping scene-District 12
The girls were all wearing dresses or skirts and have their hair braided.
The colour palette of their clothes is white, grey and blue (dull and overworn)
Dirty Clothes.
Boys had short hair.
Boy are in trousers and shirts
Wear their best clothes
Cult-like
All equal
recognise the district
Simple clothes (not well stitched and made)
No makeup
How do you feel?
-Scared of being reaped
-Tension
-Sorry for them
Why are they dress this way?
To let the audience know they're poor, sad and have hard lives.
Effie
-Bright dress(pinkish)
-Makeup-white face, pink lips, crazy eyelashes
2. Capital
Bright, colourful and vibrant clothes
Crazy makeup and hairdo's
Exaggerated, over the top
Loud
different hairstyles, unique
excessive makeup on men and women.
use of headpieces.
Complex, extra clothes.
Advanced technology, better style
good quality made to wear once and throw away
How do you feel?
Despise/Dislike because they have everything the tributes don't
Life isn't equal.
easygoing, not stressed, arrogant
3. Beginning of Arena
Dull colours(grey, brown, green camo)
Jacket, cargos, t-shirt, hiking boots.
All look the same-makes it easier to watch them die.
Clothes fit the environment.
Themes:
Hope and Rebellion
Rich vs Poor
Struggle for Power
In the Reaping Scene costume is used effectively to show the imbalance between the rich and poor of Panam. For instance, the children of district 12 all look alike in dull, simple and overworn clothing. In contrast, Effie Trinket arrives wearing bright colours, a large wig and headpiece and excessive makeup. This makes the audience feel sorry for the people of District 12 because of Effie is a symbol of the wealth in the capital. We see that not everyone lives in poverty. The director did this to show the hard life of those in Katniss's home district. Coinciding with this is Effie's behaviour. She is loud, happy and confident while the people of the district are quiet and scared. This can be juxtaposed to the scene where Katniss and Peeta arrived in the Capital. In this scene, everyone else is rich and clean and they are the different ones.

Tempo-Speed
Faster- More energy, upbeat
Slower-Melancholy, sadder, sombre (quiet and still)
Chords
Major-Full, bright, happy
Minor-Sinister, sad
Dynamics-Volume
Loud-Energy, emotions. When the music starts to rise the editors want the emotion to rise as well.
Quiet-Subtle, focus
Reaping Scene Music
No music to start off with, to hear the footsteps and the awkward silence of the people.
The first scene uses silence to make it suspenseful, get a sense of realism, and make the audience to focus.
Quiet music during Propaganda film- Doesn't distract from the story.
Medium tempo
Minor chord-scary energy
When Primrose got called
The music went out again making it suspenseful and emotional.
When Peeta got called the music started to appear slowly and gently.
The tempo was slow at the start but builds up.
Music used to introduce him, to represent his feeling of anxiousness.
Has a major chord but it gets dominated by the minor chords making it feel sinister.
Horn/Trumpet symbol of battle, war, triumph. (Sinister victory)
Makes the audience feel sorry, isolated from others, that he might have a chance of victory.
Music and silence are used effectively to create a forbadding (Something evil coming) in the Reaping scene. In the reaping scene, the tributes from District 12 are selected and we see Katniss volunteer as tribute for her sister. The male tribute selected was Peeta. Silence is used when Effie draws out and reads the tributes names to make us feel like the moment is real to make us focus and draw out the suspense. The director has done this to make the audience worried about who will be chosen. Music was used to introduce to Peeta when his name is drawn. The music is predominantly minor and has a slow tempo which makes us feel sad and worried like Peeta. This is combined close up shots of Peeta's worried facial expressions to draw the viewer in.
The use of music and silence was utilised strategically to create an atmospheric scene during the Reaping. The

English Discussion Workshop
English Discussion Workshop
How do camera shots and angles enhance the story?
Angle-Over the shoulder- Brings audience into conversation.
Shot-Extreme wide angle shot-To give persepctive and size.
Angle-High angle- It shows that the subject is important/ has power.
Theme: Power/Control
- Shows power through:
- Shot of everyone looking up at President Snow.
- Body language and gestures.
- Tributes are seen as vulnerable and at his feet also below the citizen.
SEXXXY Paragraph
In 'The Hunger Games' camera shots and angle are used effectively to show the theme of power. We see this when President Snow is addressing the crowds at the Tribute parade. In this scene the director uses a low angle, over the shoulder extreme wideshot to show that Snow has the power over everyone. The purpose of this is to introduce the antagonist character and show the power and control he has over others, including Katniss. Coinciding with this is the use of ligthing focusing on the tributes and Snow to show that they are the most important in the scene. This can be juxtaposed to when the tributes, Katniss and Peeta, reclaimed power from Snow in the arena by threatening to eat the nightlock berries and robbing Snow of his victor.
Mid shot-Not intimate for the viewers, we feel like we are watching it happen.
Aspect: Costume
In the film ' The Hunger Games' camera shots and angles are perfectly executed to showcase the theme of power

End Of The Term Art Reflection
Where is your focal point?
Our focal point for the front cover was the picture in the middle, where it shows a handshake, we did this by putting the leading lines (The pink and grey shapes in the background) on the side to lead people's eyes towards the picture in the middle. The curved text also helped attract people's eyes towards the subject.
Why did you choose it and put it where it is?
We chose to put a bright colour that goes well with white to attract people's eyes that would eventually take them to the focal point.
How are your shapes and lines leading to your focal point?
The shape we chose was simple due to it not being over the top and sticking with the simple theme the line was straight so it can easily lead people's eye to our subject.
Why did you choose the colours you did?
We originally tried to do a pastel colour palette and we started with pink so we decided to just stick with it since we wanted it to be simple and not too bright.
Does your text reflect the hierarchy rule? How?
Our text followed the hierarchy rule by using different text sizes to let the viewers know if it's the title and the body text.
How does your page link with other members in your group?
We used our colour scheme throughout our pages, used similar fonts and used black and white pictures.
Based on the start of the term, where would you now rate yourself on the solo levels? Why?
I would rate myself 3, we planned out what our magazines are gonna go look like before actually doing it, we also researched about Micheal Mew and applied his leading lines technique in our magazines and related other artists into our magazine from seeing it from the internet.
