English-Rewriting Hare And The Tortoise.

The Hare And The Tortoise
Retold by Sofia

Once upon a time there lived a hare, he was the fastest animal in town, he’s faster than anyone or anything! While taking a morning hop he stumbled across a slow tortoise. The hare saw that the tortoise was walking with a beautiful young hare, she had big beautiful brown eyes and the fluffiest ears, he knew he had to get her and beating the tortoise on a race is the only way.

The hare approached the slow-paced tortoise, “hey you slow tortoise!” said the hare frantically jumping up and down, the tortoise slowly turned his head towards the hare, “how….can... I help…. you?”  the tortoise replied slowly, “I challenge you to race me in exchange for the beautiful hare next to you” the hare said with a smirk, winking at the lade hare surely knowing that he would win the race, “de..al!” the tortoise said confidently, the hare looked surprised with the reply he got from the tortoise, “ok then, let's have a race tomorrow morning in the park” he replied while running down the path.

It was the next morning, both the competitors were both lined up on the red line, there was a huge crowd watching the race cheering for both of the competitors, the tortoise looked calm and the hare looked fearless. The gun was shot, indicating for them to run, both of them started, the hare swifted across the track looking back at the tortoise grinning, looking back at the sluggish tortoise. On the other hand, the tortoise had a slow start, but he’s not giving up, he is still very determined not caring even if the hare’s lead was huge.

The hare was zooming through the path, skipping and hopping with a big grin on his face, almost reaching the end of the race when he stumbled upon a big patch of grass with fruits and vegetables surrounding it. The hare decided to take a rest not worrying about the tortoise catching up. He stuffed his mouth with grass, fruits and vegetables until he had a food coma, that he couldn’t even move anymore, his eyes started to close on their own but the hare tried to resist until he eventually gave in.

It’s already at the peak of the afternoon when the tortoise’s heavy breathing woke the hare up, the hare’s slumber was disturbed, but it was disturbed for the better if it weren’t for the tortoise’s heavy breathing the hare wouldn’t be able to wake up to finish the race before the tortoise. The hare got up very slowly even slower than the tortoise’s walk and tried to jump but his stomach was too full of food that he couldn’t carry himself. The tortoise was slowly but surely making his way through the finish line whilst the hare is still struggling to lift himself up. The hare was left gobsmacked when he heard the crowd cheering and chanting “tortoise! tortoise!”, the roles have been switched, the hare finally understood what it’s like being slow and learned his lesson to not underestimate anyone.

THE END
