Pathos, Ethos & Logos

Pathos, Ethos & Logos

Pathos: Pathos targets people's emotions to win an argument. It is used to move people by getting pity or sadness to convince them. For instance, many charities use advertisements to show ill or struggling children to move people's emotions and get them to donate.

Ethos: Ethos is used with an authoritative person or source to convince the audience. It is used to making them believe that the information is reliable because the sources they trust say so. For instance, many celebrities or politicians are utilized in many advertisements to make their products more credible and appeal to the audience.

Logos: Logos is when an argument is heavily based on data and logic reasonings. It is used to show people numbers or analysis to make their argument seem more reliable and professional than other text. For instance, this is used in many Toothpaste commercials to show that many dentists recommend their products.
