Nosedive

Nosedive

11. How are adults constructed in this text?
Adults are constructed to be fake, following the rules in order to be liked and keep up their reputation.

28. What kind of social reality does this text portray?
A social reality I can compare to this are stories I hear of celebrities appearing to like each other when they interact on camera in order to be liked by their audience, though in reality, they despise each other. Without their audience, they will lose their projects, calls and etc and without these aspects, they wouldn't be able to make any money, similar to nosedive needing to have good rankings in order to get good treatment and a good house or car.

29. How does this text construct a version of reality?
It's similar to everyone in real life comparing themselves to other people, especially people who have better-looking face or body than them, they also base their worthiness by the number of likes they get on social media.

34. What different interpretations of the text are possible?
That despite not having social media people in real life still try hard and sometimes can be artificial with their reactions and interactions in order to get what they want.

What scene(s) did you find most uncomfortable/disturbing? Explain

The scene I found very disturbing is towards the end of the text, where Lacie Pound sneaked into her childhood friend's wedding. During the start of the film, Lacey was introduced to be a well-mannered lady, she was constructed to be polite, well-presented, and bubbly, she always had always worn neat ironed long sleeves and long skirts. However, the text took a drastic turn, changing the protagonist from a neat looking girl who goes to church every Sunday to an escaped asylum patient, having her mascara running down her face, hair all over the place, and her pastel dress covered in mud. Though her appearance wasn't the only thing that disturbed me, but also the way she acted, Lacie forced her speech to the audience despite people being unwanted to a point where she had a knife in her hand just to finish her speech.

What does the term ‘nosedive’ mean? How do you see this in the story?
The term 'nosedive' is a sudden fast fall. This is shown in the text with Lacie already having a decent ranking

Cave Drawings

Cave Drawings
My cave drawing consists of things that represent me. The three stick figures represent my family, me being the figure on the left, my mum in the middle and my dad on the left. The star and the sun is inspired by the flag of the Philippines, where I came from. The map of New Zealand shows where I migrated to, relating to it are the mountains when I first came here, the first thing I saw on the aeroplane is the snowy mountains.

Why is it important to you?
It's important to me because it represents me and my origins.

How does your design fit with traditional cave art technique?
It fits because I saw a lot of cave drawings representing nature, in my case, it's the mountains, stars and sun. They also show their family using stick figures, so I figured to do that as well.

Are Students Addicted To Their Phones?

Are Students Addicted To Their Phones?

Although it's no secret that it is easy for students to be addicted to their cellphones due to having unlimited things to do with it, it can also take a toll on their brain, leaving them addicted. Like most things in life, cellphones are better in moderation, being addicted to it can cause many problems that affect students physical wellbeing.  Being constantly on their cellular devices would consume all their time and be unconsciously glued to it to a point where they don't leave their bed, resulting to being unable to stretch or properly move their body. Without any exercises or merely moving every day would eventually lead to early future health problems like arthritis, heart diseases, lack of energy and eye problems. Yes, cellphones allow you to do almost anything, however being hypnotised by screens can be the cause of health problems many people face today.

What went well and why?
My group and I came up with ideas quickly and narrowed it down to make a filter for showers.

Why it didn't go well?
Someone decided to not help in some parts of the group work and we had to force her to do work.

What would you do differently next time?
Come up with a more complex idea and think outside the box.

Why?
