Meander-Passion Project

What are we learning this week:
For Maths Craft, this week he had been learning about String Art and Meander.

String Art: String Art is a method of weaving string or wool to create geometric patterns or pictures.
On Monday we began on string art, first, we got given a circle template that we had to cut out in order to put the string through. Once we made the basic shape, we could make our own by testing out different spaces or changing colours.

Meander: A meander is a repeated pattern or motif, usually constructed in from a continuous line.
For Thursday we made meander patterns that involve symmetry and translation, we were handed template papers and instruction. First, we drew column-like shapes into the square and added two extra squares to make L shapes and connected them to each other.

What am I wondering?
I am wondering what design I could make using string art.

Maths Craft- Passion Project

Maths Craft- Passion Project
For maths craft today we had been learning origami, like last time we put each other in groups of 4 and split up to learn two different topics. One group learnt to make origami sonobe cube and constructed 3d polyhedron shapes like the cube and octahedron with square papers. The other group made flexagon models to learn different types of it, tetraflexagon, hexahexaflexagon, hexaflexagons by cutting out a template and folding it to make the desired shape.

What am I learning?
We are learning to make different shapes out of paper.

What am I wondering?
I wonder how many papers it takes to make the cube 10x bigger.

Maths Craft-Passion Project

12-11-18
For the first day of our Passion Project, Mr Worder had introduced us to two topics, one of which we can focus on later in the term. First, we were assigned to two groups, one doing the Mobus Strip and one in the Menger Sponge, for the first two periods we learnt the topics we got, once we learnt or had an idea of that topic we taught our other group members on the other group what we learnt.

Mobus Strip:
Mr Worder first gave us an understanding of what a Mobius strip is. First, he showed us a loop and asked how many faces and edge there are, there was two faces and edges in the paper ring then he twisted one end and glue it to the other end to make the Mobus strip  and he asked us again how many faces and edges there are, this time there was only one.

After making the Mobus Strip he asked us to cut it in half, the strip turned into two circles, he then asked us to make another Mobus strip and cut it in half but this time to twist it three times and cut the circle less than half and eventually to concoct our own experiment.

Menger Sponge:
Halfway through the second period, we exchanged classroom to learn Menger Sponge, at first I thought it was to going to be challenging but turns out it just was folding papers to make flaps and overlapping them to each other. Although it was easy it is also time-consuming and addicting.

What did I learn?
I learnt how to make a Menger sponge and learnt what Mobus Strips are.

Flight of the Conchords

What are we learning?
We are learning to research famous artists from New Zealand.

How does this show my learning?
It shows my learning by creating a poster about the Flight Of The Conchords.

What am I wondering?
What if the Flight of the Conchords never went international would they be as famous now in New Zealand?
